We came up with (what I thought) was a really cool idea for cheap museum visits...antique stores! I realized they are set up very like museums now...not like the dusty junk-filled stores of my youth, now they do sections with whole scenes...the one we went to this past week had a section with shelves with boxes and tins, an wonderful cash register that dinged when you pushed the buttons and the drawer opened, and a post office shelf above it, complete with old letters and post cards! I felt like we were in a "kid-friendly"museum...I don't know what the people working there thought of us...but we didn't damage anything and only played with it a few minutes. lol
Then there were so many other things to see, and, unlike a museum where touching is looked down on, at a store you're encouraged to look, if just to see if the item is in good enough shape to spend your $$ on. So we took advantage of it. We looked through the...oh I can't think of the name...If I could, I probably couldn't spell it...the viewer thingey that you put a picture behind it and it looks 3-D-ish...anyway, when Anna saw it she said, Oh, look, it's one of the things the Tucks had! (Tuck Everlasting) They made connections all through the store from movies and tv they've watched. It was wonderful to see. We only looked at the main floor of one store, so we've got a lot more to look through. We actually left before anyone was tired and cranky. I've come a long way! lol
I simply *love* the idea of free museums! I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before. I love antique stores, I love history, and I have a treasure trove of fairly useless information in my head about antiques....I could share it! Novel idea. The only bad thing was...I forgot the most basic things while we were there. Emma commented that she liked the carnival glass. Well, she didn't say that, because I couldn't remember what it was called and had to ask mom that evening. Next time I'll know, though.
She found some pogs, though...remember pogs? I believe they were "in" right about the time she was born, so she missed that fad, but she liked the look of them, and wants to save up $$ and go back and buy some. They were 100 for $1.00, so I might buy her some. lol Unless she just wanted to buy her own. Sometimes she's like that.
I might say more, but I'm on the library computer because we're having problems at home again. Daddy is supposed to be figuring out what the problem is, but hasn't yet, so I'm stuck with using the library computer until he does. Bleah. lol
